LEAH: INTERCHANGE THAILAND UPDATE #9

Posted May 16, 2019

Tonight, Leah is on the keyboard.

Hello from afar! I hope the Canadian weather is treating you nicely, but if not, I hope to be able to bring some of the heat and humidity across the border to bless you with the almost constant wet feeling we have been experiencing here in Thailand. The greenery and plant life is beautiful here, the weather is hot, the food is good, the people are radical, what more could I ask for? This trip has been such a blessing and I would like to thank you for supporting our team in this cross cultural endeavour.

Today we were surrounded by children, in both school and kids club settings. It was the first of two days we spent teaching our prepared English classes that we had worked on before we set out to Thailand. This morning I found myself to be terribly nervous about the material I had organized and was worrying that what we had for the kids would be uninteresting or ineffective. My uneasiness only grew once we arrived at the school. The children were so eager to see the farang (foreigners) that had arrived to do English camps with them. I was overwhelmed by the excitement from the kids and I had no clue how I was going to be able to communicate with them with my limited Thai and their limited English vocabulary. But the camp was going to happen, whether I was prepared for it or not, so we were thrown right into it. Liza and I were put in a classroom and had no choice but to teach about fruits and colours.

God isn’t necessarily looking for equipped people to do his work, but those who are willing to be equipped by him.
He’s not always searching for the people with the most experience, but for those who are willing to experience.

God came through for me today and gave me the peace and courage to run the classroom as best as I could, and for the most part, it even went quite well! But throughout this trip, God has really shown me that God isn’t necessarily looking for equipped people to do his work, but those who are willing to be equipped by him. He’s not always searching for the people with the most experience, but for those who are willing to experience. I am by no means qualified or prepared to teach English to a group of kids, but God gave me the courage to step out and just go for it. I wouldn’t have gotten through the classes I taught with Liza today if God was not helping me along, both creatively and spiritually. Alone, I cannot do much, but I can take comfort in the fact that if I am willing, God can use me to accomplish anything.

Thank you so much for your prayers for us as a team. We would not have been able to take part in and learn from these different experiences without God’s presence and your continued support. Please pray for continual energy and that our hearts would be open to what God wants to reveal to us in our last couple days in Isaan.
