Nils is passionate about encouraging and challenging believers to expand their view of God, and to go "all in" in their Christian lives. As someone who is easily excited by his faith, Nils has trouble understanding how someone can know the living God, and yet be casual about their faith.
Nils is excited to help churches transition students from participants in youth groups to effective leaders serving and contributing in the church. Additionally, Nils will oversee the operations of the school, lead its program, and will work as the primary point of contact between constituents and the school. Please pray for wisdom and discernment for Nils, as he seeks to lead the school well.
As I look back on my first two months as president, I am so grateful for God’s ongoing work through this community and am thankful for the students, parents, churches and supporters who make Mount Carmel possible. Recently, I was reflecting with friends on some of the mentors we had growing up and the impact they had on our lives. As we listed the names of our role models, I was struck by the number of Mount Carmel alumni who had shaped our lives. It’s amazing to consider the downstream impact such a small school can have as its students, alumni and community share the love of Christ with those they interact with.
When I reflect on the impact Mount Carmel has had on my life, and as I look forward to the semester ahead, I invite you to join me in echoing the prayer Paul prays for the church in Philippi.
“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus… And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” - Philippians 1:4-6, 9-11

Coming to Carmel has been something that I have always wanted to do. I wanted to grow in my faith and take my relationship with the Lord deeper. - Josh
I came to Mount Carmel because I wanted to strengthen my faith. I wanted to be able to share the gospel without
fear and to be able to defend my faith. I also came to Carmel because I wanted to build relationships with other people who were seeking God first. - Callie
One thing that I have learned is how to live life as a Christian. We often put our life into compartments where we have our everyday life and then we have our Christian life. I have learned more about what it means to just live and to live for Jesus every moment of the day. - Callie
One thing that I have learned is that no matter how hard you try, you cannot overcome the struggles of life on your own. We are made to be in community and to have relationships that complement your walk with God. - Josh
I was surprised by how connected and loving this community is. I was expecting a group of people that I had classes with and became casual friends with, but instead, I have strong, almost familial bonds. I have never had this many strong Christian friendships before. I feel blessed to have these people helping me learn and encouraging me in my growth. - Callie
One thing that surprised me about Carmel was how close we have become. In the first month I really didn't know the other students, but now we've really grown in relationship to one another and in our relationship with God. - Josh
I feel more prepared to share my faith. I have a sense of peace and trust that I did not have before. As I go on in my Christian life I know that I will be able to put my trust in God no matter what comes my way. - Callie
Carmel has caused me to rethink how I live and how I cannot only turn part of my life to him, but all of it. Before, I would just live how I wanted and do whatever benefited me. Now I am more conscious of the effort I have to make to benefit others and make them feel loved. As well, the practices that we do in class are good building blocks for life, like time management which makes me focus more time for God, instead of wasting it away on a screen. - Josh
Very recently I was challenged in my prayer life. We are practicing the discipline of prayer in our Christian life class and it has helped me to see just how often I slip up. I realized that I do not pray as often as I should and that my prayers are usually more selfish than not. I have been working on praying more often. I also am trying to pray more for others and focus on listening to God's will and plan while I pray. - Callie
It has challenged me to make my faith my own faith, to take the belief that I started with and give it the roots to anchor me in this life that we have to face together. I have to decide for myself what views I have to make critical and figure out what views are not really a dividing factor. - Josh
Mount Carmel relies on personal, church and business donations to keep our program costs down. While God remains faithful in providing for our needs, our received contributions in 2021 were down nearly 20 percent from 2020, and down nearly 30 percent from pre-Covid levels. We ask that you’d prayerfully consider supporting Mount Carmel by cheque or online. Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support. Donate Here.
